A student’s ability to conduct research effectively in their senior year of high school reflects their research competency, encompassing comprehension, execution, and communication of research findings. Developing this competency is crucial in preparing learners for higher education and professional careers. This study aimed to enhance the research competency of Grade 12 learners through structured interventions under Project IN. Specifically, it sought to (1) assess learners’ research competency in conceptualizing research, formulating research methods and designs, and analyzing data; (2) determine the effectiveness of Project IN in improving research competency; and (3) identify significant differences before and after its implementation. The study employed a descriptive research design, involving Grade 12 learners taking Computer System Servicing (CSS) at Magarao National High School during the school year 2023–2024. Various pedagogical interventions were implemented to enhance students’ engagement and application of research principles. A paired t-test was conducted to analyze pre-test and post-test scores from the research competency inventory checklist. Results indicated a pre-test mean score of 2.08, interpreted as “somewhat competent,” which increased to 3.15, categorized as “competent” in the post-test. The computed t-value (-10.11) was lower than the t-critical two-tail (-2.06), confirming a statistically significant improvement. The intervention’s effectiveness scores ranged from 3.48 to 3.92, demonstrating high efficacy. These findings underscore the significance of fostering students’ research competency, which is integral to academic success and evidence-based decision-making. Teachers can leverage Project IN’s strategies to enhance research instruction, fostering deeper inquiry and analytical thinking. At the institutional level, structured research interventions cultivate a culture of critical thinking and innovation. Schools that prioritize research education equip students with essential skills, ensuring their preparedness for the demands of higher education and research-oriented careers.
