Abstract

Students struggle to make meaning out of the mathematics concepts; however, it was found that the conjecturing ability of students is still lacking. Thus, this study aims to investigate the impact of cooperative learning type Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) on students' conjecturing skills. The research employed a pre-test-post-test control group design with matched group subjects to the two sections of senior high school students. Data were gathered before and after the treatment using tests and interview guides. Data were analyzed using means, standard deviations, paired samples t-tests, analysis of covariance, and content analysis. The findings of the study indicated a significant difference in the conjecturing abilities of the students following the implementation of the interventions while controlling their numerical reasoning ability. Consequently, these results imply that the TAI approach enhances students' conjecturing abilities to a greater extent compared to the lecture-discussion approach. Thus, educators may explore and adopt TAI strategies to foster students’ conjecturing abilities.
