Investing in infrastructure, particularly at the local level, is essential for the country's progress and poverty reduction by enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities. This study examined various infrastructure projects in the coastal barangays of Masbate City from 2012 to 2022. These projects aim to improve the quality of life in the community through sustainable utilization, focusing on socio-cultural, environmental, and economic aspects. However, the community faces challenges that hinder the sustainable utilization of these infrastructure projects. The study aims to formulate recommendations to strengthen the policy frameworks governing the utilization of infrastructure in the coastal barangays of Masbate City.
The study employs a quantitative method involving 200 participants, utilizing a survey questionnaire rated using a Likert scale, and ranked based on the weighted mean. The findings reveal that communities have access to essential infrastructure services, which improve the quality of life. These include accessible transportation and eco friendly accommodations, which promote sustainable practices, support coastal resilience, and reinforce the economic growth and development of coastal barangays.
Moreover, the predominant challenge identified is the lack of awareness regarding the benefits and functionalities of infrastructure. The community most recommended implementing recycling programs, composting, and proper waste disposal systems, which are crucial for the maintenance of infrastructure facilities. This suggests the need to revitalize the barangay development agenda to maximize infrastructure utilization in the coastal barangays of Masbate City.
